Kamal Khan is not my cup of tea. He projects his voice a bit too much like a street singer who doesn’t have access to a microphone. The subtlties get lost.
But then I didn’t care for Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan either.
Both women were great. I think Bhisak is staring at elimination.
V – There is something seriously wrong with ur cup and the kind of tea you are drinking if you think Mr. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was not an amazing artist. The whole world praised his musical abilities even the ones who didn’t care for Indian music.
Sugandha sang skillfully. It is very difficult song and she did a great job on this. But, it did not catch my heart. Her voice is not distinctive; it seems an usual voice like everybody else. I would say if anybody try hard and practice hard enough could song like that. I am just trying to say a singer should have some thing that catches mind and heart of listeners!! I do not know!!
I believe if Sniti Mishra would have sung this song, it would have been much more enjoyable and mind blowing. Sniti has the exact quality of voice that these types of songs suite her and the listener would enjoy much more. Unfortunately she is out now. I am so sad about that. I hope some day she come back with more experience and training.
Liked Sugandha’s, but not as much as the judges praised. However, I am sure, she sang much better than Sniti would have.
Bishakh and Ranjeet were good, but not great.
Kamal was better in the lot, as usual (although, not mind blowing as usual). It’s high time, he gets more comfortable with Hindi songs than Punjabi ones (even if Nusaratji’s).
None of the performance today felt mind blowing, but I liked Abhilasha’s the most.
Tomorrow looks promising, though, looking at the promos in today’s videos. I just hope, Anil Kapoor doesn’t appear as shallow as in the clips, as I really like him.
I don’t understand, who they were trying to protect today by not eliminating anybody. It’s not fair to the first 4 of last week (whoever they were), when they combine two weeks’ votes. I sincerely hope not, but I am guessing, it must have been Bishakh (as that would have kicked out Sajid-Wajid from the show, too). Regardless, it’s ridiculous, when they bloody change the rules half way, when it suites them!!
@asifnateqi —As a Sniti Fan..u seems to be jealous of Sugandha’s performance…She is far better than Sniti. There is no doubt that Sniti have a peculiar voice…But she is not as accomplished singer as Sugandha’s….U are saying if anybody try hard and practice hard enough could song like that..hahaha…its her 20 yrs of hard rigorous practice that makes her performance….Nobody in the history of saregamapa have attempted such a difficult and execute it with a perfection…..
@ srgmp…I fully agreed with you dude..with no elimination they are tyring to save Bishak…This is not fair…they are trying to have contestant from each Gharana’s…So definitely final three would be Bishak,Kaamal or Sugandha,Abhilasha or Ranjeet…….
Mr. or Ms. Subin, I truly respect your opinion and your test of music. In respond to your comment that I am jealous as of Sniti’s fun!!! I really amazed by your poor judgment. My Dear Subin, I am certainly not jealous of any body specifically Indian Music. First of all I am not an Indian citizen and I do not know the Indian language 100%, but as an Afghan individual who loves Indian people and its reach culture, I learned 50% Urdo Language by watching mostly Indian music and films. I can say that my ears are capable to recognize the beautiful voice a little. I completely understand that Siniti had a little problem with SOOR sometimes, but her voice is amazing. In my previous comment I always noted that, she needs some more training. I hope she will get enough training in near future. In my opinion all of contestant are good and deserve to be recognized by music lover society. My argument in Sniti’s case is that since she has an amazing voice that you can not find it in 100 years, would have bee given her more chance and would have kept her little longer. That is all. I pray for your favorite contestant to win whoever may be. Believe me the sky will not fall down in contrary we will have another ordinary singer in Indian culture. Thanks Subin – USA
Its your way of thinking that her songs doesn’t catch your mind and heart !!Its alright.. Everyone has its own taste of music and own favorite contestant ..But it is foolish of you to comment ” I would say if anybody try hard and practice hard enough could song like that “. She is the best in the classical genre amongst all…Kaamal is good in his own style so does Sniti….Its very foolish to comment if anybody would have sung that song she would have done better….and bla bla bla……………..
I also agree with srgmp. This thing of not eliminating has always been at the cost of someone else.
I hate the host. Such a annoying pest who keeps yapping like there is no end. The previous host was much better. This guy is trying to get more attention to himself not to mention his loud voice and shouting.
Hope this idiot does not come next year.
Asif, thank you, man!! Not agreeing with you (that Sniti would have sung the same song better than Sugandha), but love you nonetheless, Sir!!
Being an Afghan, not having much knowledge of Hindi, and taking as much interest in Indian music, as to follow an Indian Music Reality Show….. I take it as an honor, being an Indian myself!
“S”, I don’t like Manish much either (on stage), but (however annoying his on-stage presence is) he seems to be a very intelligent guy. I am almost sure, it’s not his fault, it’s the stupid people on the Production Team, who run the show, and must be making him act the way he does. Have you noticed dressing or styling of the contestants? They will put funky hair colors on perfectly normal and cute looking Ranjeet or decent enough looking Kamal/Bishakh. Sniti looked so beautiful and so much younger with her original hairstyle during earlier episodes. They made her look like a tired old lady in her last few episodes. Abhilasha is, well, a little healthier than she should be, but with her really lovely smile and big, sparkling (especially, very expressive) eyes, I found her exceptionally beautiful and likable. But now with all funky hair styles and a lot of make-up, look how she looks!! I can hardly notice that shine in her eyes. Same goes for poor Sugnadha, who doesn’t need this heavy make-up or stupid dresses. She always looks better in ‘Spot-light’ videos, with no or very light make-up and really casual clothes. Don’t these idiots (team SAREGAMAPA) realize or see these simple, basic things before they just play with these perfectly normal and beautiful youngsters’ looks, or a really big show’s reputation? I just wonder….
Natural Beauty always touches.Going away form nature and trying to be artificial never makes perfect anyone and people in front of him can never be touched every time.
Manish is a very sincere guy.He makes goog comedies. But,sometimes he should try to be serious.Because same behaves everytime do not looks and feels good.
You warmed me really up, “S”. I want to add, assuming, this site is meaningful enough, that our expressions here reach to the think tank behind this show.
P.S. (I am adding this in the end, hence P.S.) : Please don’t go through following, if you don’t feel like it, as it’s mostly intended for the SAREGAMAPA team (assuming, somebody is keeping a tab on this site)
SAREGAMAPA think tank, we (the audience) are not completely stupid!! We do notice/dislike (or feel compelled to suggest) following without fail:
(1) When the contestants ask (completely irrelevant and cheap) staged questions to your occasional cheap guests, we can see/feel the embarrassment in their eyes/voice. Please don’t torture them like this. Let them keep it just to singing!
(2) When the judges like Vishal or Sajid (who I otherwise like), go on the stage and do crazy/cheap dance, we can see that they are themselves aware of how ugly and artificial (and sometimes even vulgar) it looks. However ‘conditioned’ the on-show crowd you collect may be, please leave dancing to them, and let judges behave with some dignity.
(3) When your occasional cheap guests perform even cheaper dances, my kids get embarrassed (and I do, too, if I am watching it with my mom). I really feel more comfortable watching a decent love scene in a Hollywood movie with my family, than these cheap dances.
(4) We understand, that keeping numbers in mind, you do need to get the actors on the show – it’s a win-win for you and the film makers, but please don’t allow them to make a judgment on the performances, if they are not qualified. They sure can express, if they liked it (or not), but how can they say, if the performance was absolutely good or bad? An instant example comes to mind, Rishi Kapoor – he said to many contestants, that their performances were lacking ‘energy’!! Was he drunk? He needs to know more than just having a self-conceived idea that ‘jumping around stupidly (as he did in most of his movies) or screaming out of your lungs (as his uncle did most of the time) shows energy’. He could have just closed his eyes to feel energy!! Jerk!! Only a handful of guests have been really humble enough to express their incapability to ‘judge’ a performance on the show. Please encourage them to make (as many and as they please) comments on forums like this, not on the aired show.
Most of all, have your ‘young’ and ‘heap’ MBA team members watch the (bad picture quality) tapes of highest quality SAREGAMAPA show of early years to learn the very basics!! The anchors and current batch of judges will benefit heavily, too, by participating in the sessions!! Remember, this is the most liked and watched show on Indian TV. It carries a responsibility to project our dignified musical heritage with utmost dignity. This is not ‘Ekta Kapoor’ type show, where you do just about any stupid thing possible!!
Not impressed with any of the contestants in this one, really. Of course the genre is difficult, especially when you’re singing live.
Sugandha sounded unpleasant and horsy, agree with the comments of asifnateqi on her, and even Abhilasha was off a bit in her rendering of Baiyan na dharo.
I really think the finalists should be the two women, they have qualities that put them ahead of all the guys, who are good but pedestrian. Abhilasha is the best of the lot.
Of the judges, Shekhar is the most sober and measured. The others like to exaggerate and make useless drama.
As for the host, he’s loud but bravo to him for lightening the atmosphere a bit. He speaks Hindi very well, which is a must, and the occasional mimicry, his own appreciation of music, and his respect for musical authorities make him an appropriate host.
Maybe if he just lowers the decibel level slightly.
lol @ sgrmp’s description of guests.
Reality being what it is, we are subjected to the music directors who are the judges calling some of these senior actors “sir” etc. They want to get work.
Agreed, the non-musical guests should know better than to pass judgment on the singers. Many of them refrain from doing so, but you’ll get the pompous ones who have to show their dadagiri. Indian culture demands that we listen to them from one ear and let it go out the other.
As long as they don’t actually insult the singers, I’m OK. I was disappointed to hear Alka Yagnik tactlessly tell Abhilasha after her performance that she was ‘moti’ when she was a kid, and she still is moti. Abhilasha was shocked and embarrassed. There is nothing worse than such a comment in response to a musical performance, and Alka should have been reprimanded there and then.
a show touches the heart of viewers by originality but SAREGAMAPA lost its prefrence for truth and declying on commercialism thats why it losses its position to my heart . now i feel no enthu to see it till the last minute. as usual the episodes are ! choice of songs are monotonic! but viewing comments on some arrogant contestant and their load of nasal ooooooon songs just force me to chang the chanel . bisakh is one who can justify the level of SAREGAMAPA episode now.
Kalaa, what you said about Alka’s comments on Abhilasha’s appearance, is very correct. I am sure, Alka probably knows Abhilasha for years, and based on what I know about Alka, I can safely assume, that she was just trying to show her affection for Abhilasha (if anything), but still she should have been careful, as Abhilasha abhi bhi thodi moti hai, par ‘chhoti’ bilkul hi nahi hai!! However, I hope, Abhilasha takes it as a constructive criticism, and really does something about it. She has just too good features and other attributes, to be ‘moti’.
Arunima, I don’t find any contestant arrogant. In fact, it actually amazes me, when I notice that all the contestants in this lot have pretty good integrity. They don’t show any shallowness (which you would expect, looking at social/cultural changes India is being going through). They seem very respectful, humble, and most importantly, they seem very close to each other, and appreciative of each other beyond the competition. Which ones are you talking about?
I am looking for the orchestra that performed in the show of 4th december…. anyone know who it was???
This was one of the best Saregamapa in terms of the music. The fusion band was awesome, however, the contestants were not up to the par when it came to the fusion. I liked Ranjeet and I missed Sniti for the fusion round. She would have ruled the show if she was there. Abhilasha chose a wrong song that didn’t fit with fusion music – sing something that you can play with, not “Baiya Dharo” where you have to be constantly aware of the notes. Maybe they didn’t get the whole concept of fusion. You don’t sing “jiya dhadak dhadak” and expect the musicians to fuse on it when you are doing nothing but singing as it was sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in the movie. You gotta sing like the way Rahat sings live, not like the way he sings in the movie, inside the bound room.
I agree with some of the points raised by Srgmp. Why do they have to run to the stage cheaply and ruin the song/performance? You wanna give money/blessing/praise/applause? Okay, wait till the performance is over.
I pretty much like Sajid in the show. He doesn’t give a damn about anything and when he opens his mouth, he speaks volume. Vishal, Shekhar are bully and Wajid usually gets bullied. Can’t even say anything about Daler Mehendi because he cannot say anything since he is a singer and he doesn’t wanna mess with the Bollywood musician duo especially when they are almost on the top.
