With young geniuses like Sajid- Wajid, Vishal-Shekhar and Daler Mehendi for judges, the show bears the promise of a fine blend of its own glorious heritage with the spunk and vibrancy of today's times. A fresh look, a hip & happening set, a hit anchor and an instantly catchy brand-new title track will lend a very contemporary feel to the show and motivate the youth to deliver one breath-taking performance after another! The quest at Sa Re Ga Ma Pa this year is to hunt out India's "Singing Superstar" - not just a good voice, not a playback singer but a youthful voice that can rock the nation!
Abhilasha is, in my opinion, the most versatile singer in this season.
Right from the audition stage, Abhilasha has shown her simplicity, devotion and capabiliy in singing. I am so inspired by her audition episode rendition that I feel uplifted each time I view it online. Her presence is just so simple and melodious. Same for the ‘Moriya re’ rendition. Letting the listeners/audience just flow with the song and her voice without making the difficulty of the rendition evident is her forte. Her breath control is again superb, specially noticeable in the ‘Mala jau dya na ghari’ number during audition. To be honest, the only performance of hers that I as a fan of her voice was not extremely happy about was the one she sang in Salman Khan special (Arziyaan sari). Possibly because I was not able to notice the nuances of singing that went into it. But she has been more or less flawless in her singing, brings in the right amount of pep/melancholy into the song based on the mood and is ready for playback (as mentioned by some of the mentors already). One specific mention to her ‘team spirit’ is the number of backing vocals and support she has given during other participants’ performances. Right from delivering perfectly the Chaiyya Chaiyya opening line (originally by Sapna Awasthi) to the background vocals along with others for ‘Ae hairat-e-ashiqui’ by Sniti. Also her flexibility and versatility with languages – Hindi, Marathi and a line in Tamil (Yeh haseen vadiyan). Perfect combination of talent and ability to connect with the listeners ! :) She also does not bring any ‘feverishness/drama’ with her, which is a huge + !
I am really waiting for this week to see what Abhilasha sings :)
Abhilasha’s only real competition is going to be from Kamal, Suganddha and possibly Sinit & Ranjeet (if they decides to prove their versatility of songs). Having said that, most of the top 18 this time are very good, but for some reason are typecasting themselves to very niche types of renditions.
Apart from Abhilasha (who is of course my bet for the ultimate season winner), special mention must really be made of Sniti’s voice and the pure metallic touch she has. Specially her sincere attempt to do justice to every number which is very evident in each episode. However, she has been sticking to the semi-classical genre a lot, making her scope very restricted. Same for Ranjeet. I am hoping they show some more stiff competition to the top 3 (in my view :)) mentioned above.
Looking forward to a rocking season !!
SCINTILLATING PERFORMANCE…….WHAT A VOICE…..love u , abhilasha !!
