With young geniuses like Sajid- Wajid, Vishal-Shekhar and Daler Mehendi for judges, the show bears the promise of a fine blend of its own glorious heritage with the spunk and vibrancy of today's times. A fresh look, a hip & happening set, a hit anchor and an instantly catchy brand-new title track will lend a very contemporary feel to the show and motivate the youth to deliver one breath-taking performance after another! The quest at Sa Re Ga Ma Pa this year is to hunt out India's "Singing Superstar" - not just a good voice, not a playback singer but a youthful voice that can rock the nation!
Hi Abhilasha, (I hope you guys read these comments)
I am a great fan of yours since Zee Marathi Saregamapa (which you so deserved to win, nonetheless !) and now closely following this contest and your performances right from the auditions. Surely I am your wellwisher but not a blind supporter though. I do feel elated with your good singing, disappointed with not-so-good performance and concerned when judges criticize you mainly for mainly your wrong choice of songs. So, thought of giving you some piece of advice (unsolicited, though).
Be sure of your objective in entering this contest in the first place. If you want all music directors to notice your singing prowess, great voice quality and utmost versatility in all genres, then you are doing just fine !
However, if you really aspire to win this contest (which you so deserve and Kamal too) then you need to change your strategy immediately, especially when general public opinion is going to decide the winner of the contest. Now onwards your choice of song will play very important role in your performance.
First thing, do not select latest songs of unreleased films as people will not relate to it instantly. Select well-known, extremely popular, melodious songs and perform well for a powerful impact. Songs based on Vrindavani Sarang, Gorakh Kalyan, Shyam Kalyan, Shuddh Sarang, Kamod, Malkauns, Chandra Kauns, Madhuvanti, Kedar raaga will be good choice. Any of Madan Mohan compositions (which is your speciality) also would be fine. Remember, you need to impress common viewers who may not be musically learned to know finer points or to critically acclaim your performance. They will vote only on the basis of what or who they like the most. Otherwise, some mediocre talent will win the contest and you will once again miss out on that.
All the best !
Most excellent advice! Her song choice of late has been boring and I am not sure who is picking these songs for her. I see her going out of the competition in a week if doesn’t do a course correction.
yup i to agree about song selection is not effective……i think tat z saregama teem chuse the songs……..so not crct to say sm thing abt abhilasha………she dng her best
