With young geniuses like Sajid- Wajid, Vishal-Shekhar and Daler Mehendi for judges, the show bears the promise of a fine blend of its own glorious heritage with the spunk and vibrancy of today's times. A fresh look, a hip & happening set, a hit anchor and an instantly catchy brand-new title track will lend a very contemporary feel to the show and motivate the youth to deliver one breath-taking performance after another! The quest at Sa Re Ga Ma Pa this year is to hunt out India's "Singing Superstar" - not just a good voice, not a playback singer but a youthful voice that can rock the nation!

Your Voice s jus Awesomee:):)
wen U say Mohe chod ahe sajana….5 stars
She has a lovely voice, no doubt – but THIS song she butchered a bit. Sur and timing were both off at different points. Perhaps that’s what the judges meant when they kept saying how difficult it is, and congratulating her for attempting it. Hear the original to appreciate the genius of Lata.
Here is the original by the way – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8vsJi-VUuM
You will want to listen to this thousands of times.
Yes I do realize the original was not sung on stage, and must have required considerable practice, but this is how it should sound.
Also note how pleasant and soothing Lata is when she effortlessly renders the vibrato – to my point in my comment on Sugandha, who sounded horsy and unpleasant when she attempted vibrato.
I don’t think they should simply sound like a recording of the original song. It’s mimicry (a difficult one, I grant), not artistry. There are thousands of Chinese “artists’ making knockoffs of van Gogh and Matisse but they are not really artists.
Even if that were the goal, you simply cannot compare live performance to a studio-recorded, processed output. There’s a lot of adjusting and mixing that went on even back in the 70s. I dare say Lataji’s live performance would not have lived up to her recordings.
It’s futile effort to try to compare.
Fair enough, it’s possible she may not have been able to reproduce it live herself. However I think it would be hard to adjust and remix a classical song like this too much.
We all love this song, but does anyone understand all the words?
What’s the meaning of raar? nihaar?
The lyrics are so poetic and graceful.. so unlike the bakwaas in songs these days.
Outstanding performance Abhilasha. Other contestants should be worried…
OK, V – you were wrong, and so was I.
Hear this rendering of the same song by Lata several years later. It is perfect. You can still tell the differences compared to the original (linked in an earlier post from me above) – the original one sounds younger for one thing, but also sounds more enthusiastic and bouncy, as befits the new bridge singing it in the movie, than this almost melancholy rendering when she was probably several years older (but yet not so old that her voice had noticeably thickened, as it started doing around the DDLJ days). Isn’t the internet great?
